Professor Kathy Magor is an immunologist whose primary research is on host-pathogen interactions of ducks and influenza virus. As natural reservoirs of influenza, ducks tolerate and spread the virus. The retinoic acid inducible gene, RIG-I, allows ducks to contain the virus by reducing viral replication. The RIG-I pathway is a main focus of the lab.
